Pulltite Spring campground is located in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways at Current River mile-marker 26.2. Operated by the NPS, it is open year round and one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the area. The campsites are well shaded and most have private access to the Current River. If you like to camp near streams, Pulltite is the place for you. This long, narrow campground stretches along a bend of the Current River. Across the river is the historic Pulltite Spring and Cabin, where gristmills operated from the mid-1800s until 1911. Powered by the springs daily 20-to-30-million-gallon outflow, this mill deep in the river valley indirectly gave the area its unique name. It was a tight pull for mules and horses pulling wagonloads of ground meal from the mill to the hillsides above the village of Pulltite, hence the name. The cabin was built in 1913 as a vacation retreat. The sites have picnic tables, grills and there are flush toilets, central water supply and new shower facilities. |
